The Ferragudo Parish app was designed to improve communication and accessibility for both residents and visitors by providing real-time updates on local events, weather conditions, and important public alerts. The goal was to create a digital platform that made essential information easily accessible while fostering greater community engagement.
The Challenge
Designing an app for Vila Ferragudo required addressing the diverse needs of both residents and visitors while maintaining simplicity and usability. The core challenge was creating a digital solution that centralized essential information, such as real-time weather alerts, village news, and local events - without overwhelming users. It was important to strike a balance between functionality and visual clarity, ensuring that the app could serve as an everyday tool for locals while also being accessible and welcoming to tourists unfamiliar with the area.
The Solution
After completing the wireframes and mapping the user journey, I designed the final screens in Figma with a strong focus on intuitive layouts and a cohesive visual system. The goal was to create a fresh, approachable, and lightweight aesthetic that aligned with Ferragudo Parish’s brand and values, while ensuring a seamless user experience. Guided by a minimalistic approach, I prioritized clarity and accessibility throughout the interface. By adhering to Material Design principles, the interface ensures consistency, accessibility, and a seamless user experience across both iOS and Android platforms. To reinforce Ferragudo’s identity and evoke its coastal charm, I incorporated the brand’s color palette creating visual harmony and a strong connection to place. The design prioritizes intuitive navigation and quick access to key features, such as real-time weather updates, providing a streamlined and efficient experience for both residents and visitors. This approach effectively addresses user needs while reinforcing the brand’s values and visual identity.
The Result
The design system I developed prioritizes clarity, accessibility, and visual consistency creating an intuitive experience tailored to both residents and visitors. With seamless navigation and a user-friendly layout, the app makes it easy to access real-time weather conditions, upcoming events, beach updates, and other essential local information. Now officially available on the Play Store and App Store, the Ferragudo app is live and actively supporting the local community. As usage grows, the design will continue to adapt based on user feedback, ensuring the app remains a valuable and responsive tool that enhances engagement and reinforces Ferragudo’s digital presence as a connected, forward-thinking village.
